Learn about lowcarbdiet plan and how it help you to lose weight while enjoying your favorite foods
Zone Diet Overview
Zone diet was introduced by US biochemist Barry Sears in 1996. The Zone is a stage where you will reach, if you eat a diet that contains precisely 40% carb, 30% protein and 30% fat. Sears claims that eating this way will produce optimum fat burning and weight loss, help to fight various diseases like cancer, heart attack and reach a balance between insulin and glucagons.
Zone diet requires you to work out how many grams of protein you need a day from the tables and then eat this much protein divided into 'blocks' of 7g each, 9g of carbohydrate block and 2 g of fat block each to stay in the Zone.
The favored protein foods are very-low-fat poultry, fish, dairy and vegetarian proteins. The favored carb foods are mostly fruits and vegetables. Food to be avoided are potatoes, pasta, rice, white bread, corn, sugar a well as high GI fruits like carrots and bananas. Olive oil and other monounsaturated fats are the favored oil; avoid all saturated oil.
Typical calorie count for a day's eating
According to Zone diet, for an average sedentary woman needing 56g of protein a day, the calorie would be approximately 536. A mildly overweight active woman doing daily aerobic training would need 86 g of protein which translates to 800 calorie.

Zone Diet Drawback
- Consistent weight loss if followed strictly.
- No need to exercise for weight loss.
- The food allowed under Zone is far too small portion and the calorie count is ultra-low causing many to feel hungry on this regime. Some people who have followed the instruction in the book have reported feeling very hungry, dizzy and disheartened.
- Too much to count and remember; as one have to weigh and measure to make sure the blocks contain the right amount of protein, carb or fat.
