Scarsdale Diet Overview
Scarsdale diet is a hugely famous diet in the '70's being introduced by Dr Herman Tarnower, who ran a clinic in the town of the same name and created the diet for overweight patients. Scarsdale diet contains 43% protein, 22.5% fat and 34.5% carbohydrate. Tarnower claimed that this level of carb would trigger ketosis, weight loss would be fast and hunger under control. Dieters are supposed to follow the weight-reducing scarsdale diet strictly for 2 weeks at a time only.
Typical day's eating for Scarsdale Diet
Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit; slice of whole meal toast (no butter or spread); coffee (no sugar or milk)
Lunch: Tuna fish, well drained; salad with oil-free dressing; coffee
Evening meal; Roast lamb, all visible fat removed; salad with lemon dressing; coffee
Drink: Water, diet drinks, tea, soda water

Scarsdale Diet Drawback
Scarsdale Diet is very strict about following the diet to detail during the 2 weeks, so you will have little room for choice, and some time have problem finding some of the items in shops.
High level of animal protein may cause kidney problems or increase risk of osteoporosis.
Weight loss claimed is far too rapid during scarsdale diet compared with official guidelines of 1-2lb a week.
